I need to find a replacement bow eye for the Duranautic 14-40 Offshore I just bought. The original is broken, it was made of cast bronze. Any ideas where I can find a replacement?
I thought about just drilling a second hole and using a U bolt type bow eye but prefer to find an original type eye.

Re: Broken bow eye

Cast bronze has a nice, vintage feel, but I'd recommend stainless steel for the new one...

Re: Broken bow eye

I looked at the bow eyes here at iBoats but all are different, this boat has a cast round bow eye, it looks a lot like the shape of a common lifting eye made from steel or cast iron. I've just not been able to find one in Stainless steel or bronze.
Those single bolt eyes seen here on iBoats have a flat surface which don't sit well on a small aluminum boat's V hull keel.
The aluminum is counter bored slightly to position the round bow eye and to seal the hole.

I did consider just making a second hole but with the original hole being counter sunk so much, there's nothing for the U shaped bow eye to rest against short of using a flat plate or big washer. No matter how I do it it would look like an amateur repair.

I tried the local marinas and a hardware stores, nothing but galvanized eye bolts and open eye bolts. The original was a forged or cast bronze eye bolt with about a 3" shank and no shoulder, the eye nests into the recess in the keel strip keeping it vertical.

Buy one of the single eye's , grip in a vice and grind/file it to suit the shape you want. Show it who's the boss.:D

I used to think SS was expensive until I looked at a couple of bronze marine items recently!
