Broken drain plug bottom of manifold

Just got this boat, been sitting since 2005. Mercruiser 228. Tracking down some leaks, found water dripping from bottom of exhaust manifold, where the drain plug SHOULD be, all the way at the end.

Whats the best way to remove this? Drill out the center and use an easy out?

btw - is this the forward end of the exhaust manifold in the photo?

Yes, near the fuel pump all the way on the end. There is also a larger plug nearby, this is the smaller one.

Just stating the obvious here but make sure it's well ventilated and no smell of gas BEFORE you start drilling. We want you in one piece so you can tell us how you made out!

Excellent tip. I never even thought about that. I will get a fan and blow out the area, as well as rinse it down with water beforehand.

I feel stupid to say this, but the drain plug was not even installed, the whole was just filled with crud. I poked a screwdriver in it and then the water began to flow out. Screwed a new plug in and all is good. Thanks for the help!
