broken fish finder transducer wire

I have an older eagle fish finder on my boat and it appears that the wire to the transducer has almost completely broken off RIGHT at the top of the transducer.

Is there any hope of taking it apart and repairing? A new transducer is something like 50 bucks so I'd probably be best off buying a new unit

If the wires are actually broken there, it will be tough. You might be able to get enough of it exposed, to solder on some wire, and then patch back into cable. Try to preserve the foil shield, if it has one. Easy to mess it up, and it may introduce some noise, but out side of time, not much to lose.

If it is still working, 30 minute devcon epoxy can seal the hole and usually support the cable. It may take two application/drying cycles to build it up. You might even what to add something to help support the wire.

Does it still work? If yes I would get creative with epoxy or 3M 5200 and secure the wire to the ducer, it's a hack job at best, but might get it repaired. If it's not working and the wire is cut right at the top of the ducer you are probably out of luck. As far as taking it apart to repair, the ducer is probably epoxy filled....

Try Ebay for a replacement.

Nope, not working. It'll work sometimes but usually not at all.
it's literally broken basically even with the transducer housing, short of taking it apart and fixing it internally I don't think I can resolder it
I hadn't considered it might be epoxy filled, thanks.

Transducers are encapsulated in epoxy. Throw it away and get a new unit.
