Broken Knock Sensor

So while draining the water out of my block I managed to break the knock sensor on my 2005 5.0 GXI-E. I found a replacement for about $70. I don't have a problem spending that to fix it. But, what I'm wondering is if I can go to my GM dealership and order the exact same thing for a much lower cost because it's not a "marine" version? I have to believe that they're the exact same thing?

In your search for a lower cost knock sensor, it is imperative that you find/use a knock sensor of the same frequency as they do vary. That mentioned, I do believe finding one at a GM dealer should be possible. Let us know what you come up with, good luck.:)

From a service manual:
IMPORTANT: If installing a new knock sensor, be

sure to replace it with an identical part. Knock
sensors are very sensitive and designed for each
specific application.
IMPORTANT: In the following step, it is very important
that the knock sensor be torqued to the
precise specification. Incorrect torquing will result
in unsatisfactory performance. DO NOT use
sealer on threads.
1. Install knock sensor in engine block. Torque to
12-16 lb. ft. (16.3-21.7 N·m).

I would think an auto version OK. Just due to the fact its an "exterior" part which receives salt spray in northern states during the winter season. As I recall its just a one-wire weather pack connector, so should seal OK in the marine environment.
