Hi to all,

I'm about the newest member you have. I will be starting another post soon as I just bought:

1. a 14ft 'v' style alum jon boat with shore-lander trailer and a minkota ($300-all in decent shape)
2. an older (late 60's) 9.5, it started with one pull for about a 1/2 second (not in water - $130)
3. a 1957 FD-11 rattle can painted black (ouch) but the original red inside the cover is nice and it does not seem to have much use - too clean - came with a thick factory Johnson service manual (from 20's to 64, part# 302231-10)) and a new carb kit and started (hard), ran rough (low/high speed adjustments way wrong). I am going to try to bring this one up to real nice after reading the positive posts on this motor.
4. a 1975 15hp cherry (#300) runs great (I'm buying a manual).

I want to read the FAQ about the 9.9/15 for general knowledge - that motor is going on the jon boat.

I am trading the 9.5 for a 1975 Evinrude 40hp with controls - very clean - last run about eight years ago. I am going to clean it up, bench run it, and look for a boat.

OK,
I know I'm nuts, but they just demanded to be purchased and I couldn't help my self (arrghh) just arranged the trade today (got to fine tune the 9.5) for the 40.
I'll be posting pics on the various projects and asking for help, lots and lots of help. I've been reading the forums on these motors for three days and as soon as my gas tank arrives the work starts. The guys on here are amazing in their knowlege and the projects I've followed are beautiful work. Let me thank all ahead of time and I really appreciate any help and advice I will receive.

Incidentally, I used to follow this forum about 5 years ago when I had another boat and I was very sorry to here about Tashasdaddy's passing - an intelligent and good man who freely gave of his advice. RIP.

Must have been something in the water or maybe the beautiful Carolina no-winter weather this year, it was almost 80 yesterday and I LOVE being on the water. Old plumber/carpenter here with many years of various mechanical projects completed and lots of tools - just not a lot of $ (lack of work) so I try to 'git em cheap - make em work'.

Anyway, if that link for the 9.9/15 is still available I'd love to read it.

Fair winds to all.

Re: broken link in FAQ, 9.9/15hp motors

Forgot to mention I got a pressure tank with the FD-11, and it works. Is there any advantage to converting to a fuel pump?

Correction to original post the 15hp cost $300 not #300.

Nothing wrong with a pressure tank setup if it all works.
The main advantage for converting is that you can use the same type of gas tank for all of them if you convert.

Tx,

Thanks, my first time with a pressure tank. It has a little button for pressure and it gets hard (kind of like a bulb) and seems to work as the FD-11 ran for 10-15 minutes. I don't mind mixing different ratios of oil/gas (I read 24/1 or 32/1).

Thanks again.
