Broken plexiglass windshield replacement or repair

Gentlemen: Broke the fiberglass/plexiglass windshield on my 1994 Procraft, V-170C, dual console fishing boat yesterday and want to procure a replacement. I'm guessing that gluing it back together is not worth the effort since it's in three pieces. I found a sticker on the plexiglass suggesting Custom Mold & Tint, Inc. in Monticello Arizona manufactured the windshield. I visited their site and they suggest they can make a new one (since they have the original molds from original manufacture) and ship it to me (price range of $90.00-$100.00). I need to send them the old windshield so they can exactly match the design.

My question, before I would try them; does anyone have any experience using them? They seem legit on line, but ya never know, and I don't want to give up my old windshield until I'm sure I'm progressing down the right path with these guys. I figure some of you must have had some dealings with them in the past and could weigh in on whether or not their are legitimate and trustworthy.

Never used them, but from searching for replacements it seems to be standard operating procedure to send the old one for matching/molding to whoever to get a new one. $100 for a new one sounds like a steal compared to the prices I've seen online.

I agree with TDF. It isn't worth the money to try and make one cheaper or fool around when they can do it for such a price. JMHO!

The price is certainly good, and if you spoke with them over the phone I would say your good to go. i just had a local shop here cut and bend up a new hatch and door for mine and I was a bit over 250 for 1/2 inch acrylic so I would say the number doesn't sound too crazy. Definitely send the old one so they can match the bends. Your other option might be to search for a local plastic shop and see if they can recreate it.

So long as they guarantee an original fit windshield the that sounds OK. The issue I would have to ask is if they have the original molds why do they need the old windshield? My guess is they can make one but want yours because they don't have the molds. So long as its guaranteed and your good with the cost, go for it.

The molds are just the general shape of the windshield they would make and put on the boat, most plex windshields are custom fit to each hull by hand with heat guns and such after the general shape is attained with the mold, in the plexi industry it is really common to request the old part back if you have it to match as close to possible. If you would have been close to them, they would have asked you to drop by with the boat and they would have custom fitted it for you. As far as the price they gave you, I would have already has my old windshield in the mail and on its way to them, $100 bucks for a new windshield is a steal. If yours is a 1994 and they still answered the phone when you called, then I would have to say you are 100% good to go! 21 years in the boat business making windshields is a pretty good indication of reputation, at least to me it is!
