Broken skeg 85 hp 1989

Broke my skeg today......Of all things backing into by driveway....Tilted the engine up and saw iol comeing out of the weep hole. It did not break close to the housing but the oil worries me more......I could definitly get a skeggaurd for it and have plenty of room.. IS the oil just a result of the shock? As always thanks for everyones help!

My guess is that the "oil" from the weep hole is exhaust residue, SC.<br /><br />I would check it carefully to ID it, and I would also check the gearcase to see if it is down on oil.<br /><br />Good luck.

How can you check the oil level? Can I use it without the skeg? What happens if I do? Thanks
