Hello,

I would like to ask for an oppinion of the experts again.

I ran my boat on the meditranian sea in June and I am just preparing to go again in 2 weeks. Now I mentioned some marks of brown smoke at the side exhausts of the Alpha drive. I have nevers seen this before and so I am a little worried if this is normal.

I also pulled on spark plug but I am not sure if this looks as it should. So I am asking for an advise here.

It is a 4.3 V6 engine which now has 33 hours on the clock. I modified the Edelbrock 1409 with the rods and jest by Chris recommendation. The engine ran great with that setup, it's just that this brown smoke worries me.

Regards
Michael

considering spark plug threads never go into a chamber I`m guessing your using the wrong plugs, extended reach instead of standard length

I had the same thought.

This are NGK BPR6EFS which should be the right ones for the Vortec heads.

I compared them with the BPR6FS and these are too short.

Compared to the AC Delcos which are also listed for this engine the EFS plugs have the same thread length.

Plugs look good to me jetting is correct in my opinion. The stain by idle relief ports may be more from the water salts etc drying on . youmay try using something to remove water deposits and lime residue from sinks etc see if it comes off

Thank you for your answer. I did not try to get the brown stuff off but I guess this should not be a problem.

My question was more if this points to something that is not normal. For example if I have to change some settings on the carburetor or something else. Maybe just the fuel was not the best ?

It is a Vortec engine for sure. I bought it brand new last winter and it has 8 bolts.
