Brown transmission fluid

I was changing out the fluid and it was brown but didn't smell burnt. Have had zero performance issues. Fingers crossed.

I changed the transmission fluid on a boat I bought last fall, I was dismayed at the condition of the fluid I removed. I have put new fluid in and I am hoping for trouble free boating.

Leak in the oil cooler ?-----Drained the oil 2 minutes after engine shutdown or 2 days ?

Think positive.
Brown is a darker shade of red.
Any idea of when it was last done. As you mentioned it didn’t sell burnt so that’s a good start.

Pressure test oil cooler if equipped with one.

Clutch packs aging cause the fluid to discolor. Looks like clutch pack replacements hopefully next winter. Might as do a complete rebuild while the transmission is out. It is a 1990 model after all.
