Re: Brunswick Downgraded
It's difficult to imagine a boat design that's not being built, or at least not being built until the big down turn this year. Even the European designs Mark42 posted a while back have comparable models here in the states, the market just isn't that big for them though.
What it sounds like is they would like a design from the past(?), if so there are plenty of hulls that can be rebuilt into a custom design just for them and there are a few very small companies that still build from older molds. This would also open the market for rebuilds, the problem is the cost to do this is too high when the labor factor is included, just look at the projects in these forums. You buy a $300.00 boat, put $5,000 into it without labor being included and the value goes up to $1,500.
If all of them wanted the same style boat and had cash in their hands it would be built, but if each one wants a different design that's unique to a need or desire they have, then it could be built, but the cost would be much higher.
The problem is the cost of production is about the same for a new or old design, the biggest difference might be in that some of the older designs had a flatter hull and needed less HP to plane or ski. These same designs are made now, but only by small builders because of the very low demand.
