So, after watching several NFL games this year, FOX, NFL Network, CBS, and NBC.... I have to say, Bryant Gumbel has to be the worst announcer there is. Chris Collinsworth seems to even get frustrated with the stupid stuff he says. He's kinda like TiVo for Collinsworth. What every Chris says, Gumbel will say it again within a minute or two. I guess I get irritated too easily, but the knowledge he seems to have is very limited.

If I hear him say 'Meadowlands' one more time, I think I'll throw my TV out the window.

I don't remember him being this miserable on the Today show, was he?

The thing I do is to turn the TV sound off and find the game on the radio if you can.

I don't think it is all Gumbel's fault. The NFL Network production, particularly camera and sound work, are local amatuer quality. That usually has me so irritated that Gumbel's weak voice and amatuerish announcing distract me from the game.

Thank Sony for captioning, so I can turn the sound off.

Gotta agree with the Gumbel criticism. What talent scout thought he could do NFL football? I felt all during the game he was propped up by Collinsworth ( who I like as an analyst). The entire game seemed like a promo for NFL Network. Can we say "In the future all NFL games will be on PAY tv?".

Re: Bryant Gumbel

And that's when the NFL decided to follow MLB into oblivion.

Guess we'll all be tuning into our hunting and fishing shows more often... not that they are much better... I mean the production is, but seriously, do we really need 5 shows dedicated to largemouth bass? Roland Martin's about the only one I can stand to watch anymore because at least he fishes for something other than bass one out of every 3-4 shows. Sure Linders does muskee and walleye every now and again, but still it's mostly bass.

How about some trout fishing, salmon fishing, steelhead, and fly fishing, maybe even fly tieing, sunfish and perch fishing, how about some bluegill/brim fishing, and let's not forget catfish (day and night, could do 2 shows). Let's mix in a couple shows of some more exotic fish like peacock bass, piranhas, and sturgeon. Then add some gamefish like snook, bonefish, tarpon, mahi, tuna, and of course marlin and sailfish. Do some sharks too (I know Roland already did that, and that's why I still watch Roland, because at least he makes an effort to mix it up a bit). In fact, you could do a different type of fish every show with a show every day for a year without repeating yourself. If they worked smart they would film about 3 episodes at a time on the same type and them move to the next, that would reduce costs and when they were all done, they'd have about 3 years worth of shows that they could play without repeating one, and at the end of those three years, they can just play re-runs and there would be enough of them that we'd never notice they were reruns.

Wow, sorry I'll get off my soap box now and stop hijacking this thread... yeah Gumbel stinks.

Re: Bryant Gumbel

It was obvious that the announcers were pulling for the Giants and then swayed at the the last few minutes.

When I first heard the comments I changed channels looking for better people but could not find any.......

How are the announcers on the Sirus? or do they ruin things with BS???

I was surprised the game was on regular network TV. This is the first NFL Channel game I have seen and I thought there was some kind of joke because it sure sounded like Kermit the Frog was doing the announcing till they zoomed into the booth and the guy talking was not Kermit. I tried to listen to it on the radio but my digital TV is like 10 seconds later then the radio. I heard the Randy Moss touchdown while they were in the huddle.

There sure isn't 100% play by play announcing. I noticed several plays going on while they were BSing about other crap. They sure didn't zoom in or give much if any air time to the cheerleaders.

I quit watching pro ball about 8-9 years ago They are just a bunch of overpaid spoiled brats. Very few of them today have any humility. NCAA is the only football for me.

I find it amusing that the two most manipulative corporations in the country (Comcast and the NFL) are fighting over the best way to exploit the fans. It's like watching two jackels fight over a gazelle carcass.

Re: Bryant Gumbel

There is a tradition down here with the New Orleans Saints fans. The announcers on the TV are always so damn Anti-Saints that the tradition is to "turn down the TV and turn on Saints Football on the New Orleans Saints radio network." You can catch their games on the radio, with about a 2 second delay to the TV. The announcers call the game without that anti-Saints bias. They actually talk about the Saints, what the Saints are doing, how they are doing, etc. They don't just diss the Saints for 3 hours and cheer for the other team the entire time like the TV announcers do.

Yea sometimes the Saints suck, but last year they came one win away from the Superbowl. They deserve some respect.
