Mercury 140 I/0. Serial #5985416. This boat has begun leaking water somewhere around the stern drive, neeeding to be bailed every few days. The temp guage has also been seen pretty high sometimes. While tubing yesterday, she began to run poorly, then shut down. When the engine cover was removed, milky oil was seen all over the engine compartment, and pooled at the bottom. We wondered if the water had run down into the dipstick?? Or worse... :(
Any thoughts? She's out of the water now.
Grumpyrockfarmer

Sounds like a bad ujoint bellows. Pull the drive and check for water. Probably have water in the drive forcing out the gear lube.
When was the last time the drive was pulled and the impeller replaced?

Thanks Don, but we definately have water in the motor oil - a dipstick check confirms it. I suspect we have more than one problem here.
Grumpyrockfarmer
