Building Fiberglass Parts.

So sitting here spacing out my screen saver came on . it plays all the pictures of the Norwalk boat show. looking at those pics i saw a lot of fiberglass parts like steps, tables, etc. I also remember reading that the newer boats don't use wood for the deck just fiberglass. How can i build stuff like that? Is there more too it than just glass?

Hi Zach,

I'm not sure if the following is what you're talking about, but it is interesting none the less...

There is a material called "polywood" Basically it's made from recycled plastics like 2ltr soda bottles, etc... Folks are using it for decking, outdoor furniture, bird feeders (we have one)... It's heavy, oblivious to weather, and the only real downside I can see is that nothing (not even epoxy) can stick to it...

whadda ya wanna build?....tell me and ill tell ya how to build it........

ill be fabbing a swim grid....bench seats with the name of the boat sunk right in the glass gellcoat. a new dashboard.....with side arm console......and a waterslide.....just build a plug....make a mold.....then pull a part off.....some times you dont have to build a plug........

if you are doing somthing flat....the best mold is a peice of glass.....just apply release agent......(wax)......gellcoat it....glass it....reinforce it...then glass it...and pull it......

wax is used as the mold release agent....see pager one and two of the hull ext
