Should I have to pump the prime bulb everytime the engine was tilted? Before I go out in the boat I pump the bulb and warm up the engine. I tilt it and tailer the boat about 500 feet to the ramp and put the engine down. Then I have to pump the bulb again to get fuel to it to start. I see that when I tilt the motor that fuel runs out of the carbs. Is this normal to have fuel come out and have to pump the bulb in such a short time? Does this mean that I have a faulty float/ needle and seat?

ummm hard to tell without the type of motor. Yes on some motors its normal fuel will run out of the carb throats when they are tilted up, and yes some may need to be reprimed to start.

It's a 1986 mercury 90 hp 2 stroke inline 6 with 3 carburetors.

Yep tilting them up will cause the fuel to drain out a bit. Yes that would mean it would need to be reprimed in most case's to restart.
Question, why do you pre start it, if you only trailer it about 500 feet. Also do you have muffs on it, when you do so?
Inline 6's are notrorious for being hard starters, at the best of times. Once warmed up, and running they awesome motors, and start easily if still warm. To get them really warm you need to run them for 2 to 5 mins at fast idle. A quick start, then shut off will not do it.

I do use muffs. I don't want to be that guy backing up the boat ramp because my boat takes forever to start so I warm it up at home. And thanks for the reply. I was having some issues with the carbs. I took them off today and found that one float had fuel in it. Hopefully a new one will cure my issues.

A "heavy" float will cause extra fuel leakage, plus some other possible problems too. As a note if you rebuild the carbs, your gona have to do a link n sync too.
