Hi Again,

How do you guys polish your bump strips to make them like mirrors, and , when you install, is the cap fastened at the same time as the strip, through it, or are they mounted separately .Thx,

Re: Bump strip

Install the cap and then the aluminum rub rail and screw/rivet then together at the same time, and I use this stuff to polish the aluminum. Rub it on till it turns black, then wip it off with a clean damp cloth, then polish with a Dry cloth.

Re: Bump strip

Aha, Thank you . Can I use a good quality deck screw instead of the phillips head to fasten it all together

Re: Bump strip

I would highly recommend using stainless screws. Expensive but... Never rust and you don't want to have to replace em.
What are you using as a backer?

Re: Bump strip

I replaced all of the old backer and replaced with new 3/4 ply all the way around cut to inch and a half depth.so lots of good material to catch. But my god i'm having a bear of a time getting the cap back on. She' ll fit 3/4 of the way, and only the front passenger corner won't fit back over. Its on a trailer, so ive got to have the cap back on before i glass in a new floor. Sigh, hours at it and no change. But i think i will go with the deck screws, the phillips stainless just strip, even when backing them out. Those things are torture. Any ideas on the cap?
