Is there any difference between marine carpet and bunk carpet? I have left over carpet from my restoration and would like to use it if it is just as durable.

Re: bunk carpet V. marine carpet

On top of our houseboat is 3-year rated el-cheapo Home Depot outdoor carpet. It's now 6 years old but is just about shot.

And, we also have a 12' x 12' regular ol' jute backed "indoor" rug, that we bought 5 years ago. I expected it to disintegrate in short order, but it still looks almost like new, even the maroon color hasn't faded, and it's right out in the sun.

If it's for your bunks, use what you have--

doesn't matter; use what's available and cheapest. If it wears out sooner, who cares, it's a cheap easy RR.

old plastic "indoor/outdoor" works great

My old trailer had 30 year old Gold Shag carpeting. I used the HD outdoor carpet for the current trailer, works just fine.

Thank you all. That is what I thought but have seen bunk carpet listed in boat suppliers cats. Now I just need to find hardware to replace the bunks with. they are looking a little rough to me and the hardware is rusted.

By all means if you have extra Marine Carpet that would be suitable for this purpose as well.

Sounds great. but as you said I do have extra marine carpet. I have also been looking at Teflon bunk skids as well instead of the carpet. any thoughts there, anyone?
