Bunk Movement

I just got a new boat its a 16' lund with a shorelandr trailer. I have a pair of 4' bunks and 2 keel rollers. I noticed the the bunks actually did a 180 last time i pulled the trailer out of the water. And I think that explains why my keel hits the front crossmember( not the one the bunks sit on ) when im loading.. I actually have to lift the front of the boat about a inch or 2 to get the keel on the first roller then i have to to crank a good 4'. You might say im not backing in enough but if i go any further the boats of the bunks. I would like to know if thats how its designed or should that just be tightened up when the boats on the trailer? Also i was thinking that the 4' bunks are kind of dinky, I was thinking of putting like 8' bunks on there, That way it keeps the boat straight and level long enough to catch that first roller.

Thanks In advance

Re: Bunk Movement

On many trailers, the bunks are attached to risers that can be adjusted up or down.

Without seeing your setup, it would sound as if the bunks in the front need to come up. Easy to do, if, in fact, the risers are adjustable and... the boat is off the trailer.....more of a challenge if not.
This would raise your bow more as it slides forward.

On the front cross member (nearest the bow) where you say the keel hits, install a "V" shaped hard rubber keel roller.

Longer bunk boards would be a good upgrade.
More support is a good thing.

Yea, 4 ft bunks are dinky. Lund and shorelandr are both really good products. I have a 16 ft Alumaweld. I just went out and measured. My bunks are 8 ft long.

Re: Bunk Movement

What do you mean your bunks did a 180? Mine are bolted to the trailer.

*Take's foot out of mouth*

I re-looked at the pictures and I see what you mean. They are spinning on the single post.

I have to agree with earlier posts...put longer bunks on the trailer and ad a second post further foward on the trailer to keep them from moving. Plus, replacing wouldnt hurt and shouldnt be too much $$; those bunks look as if they have seen better days.

Re: Bunk Movement

Very funny:D

Like I said before Trailers I have had before always had fixed bunks or rollers.. Im still ot sure why theres only 1 bolt on each side. Well for the time I added a second one to keep them from spinning over. What I intend on doin is adding a second bar so I can attacch longer bunks.. Thanks for viewing
