Bunk repair/Boat lifting question

Hi all,
I have a 18' fiberglass with a 4.3lx mercruiser on board. Not sure of the total weight, but it is rated to carry up to 8 people.

Question is that I need to weld on a support for the bunk near the rear of the boat. If it was only just repairing the bunk board, I would to the lake and off load and do repairs on shore. But with the necessity of arc welding, I need to do this repair at home. I have a very nice porta power system. If I use 2x4's or 2x6's can I support and raise the rear of the boat without damaging it. I figure I only need to raise it three or four inches at the most.

Really don't want to take it to dealer and have them lift boat and then them take it to trailer repair company. I'll then be paying them both. Please give me your suggestions.

Thanks,

Yep raise the stern of the boat with a GOOD floor jack and some 2 x 6's it will hold just raise it the three inches you need I would also try to put some stands under it to be safe.

Thanks, I just wanted a second on the idea. I have a very good 10 ton porta power with multiple attachments that will spread the lift along with the 2x6. Thanks,

lower the tongus all the way to the ground.... block up the rear and crank the tongue all the way up..... fix trailer and reverse procedure
ps protect your hull with a welding blanket so those sparks don't melt in

OR drop a buddy off at the lake for a day of fishing..... pick him up after repair is complete....

Ayuh,... Great advice right there,.... No need for a porta-power...

Hmmm... never thought of that. Will attempt in next day or too and will post pictures of the results. Good advice on shielding the hull, had thought of that but still very good advice.
