I'm planning a total replacement of the deck in my bowrider this off season. I'll be blocking up the boat & taking the trailer out from under it. I noticed the bunk on the one side is rotting out toward the rear. I want to replace & got to thinking, could I/ should I replace with rollers. What would the best choice be? I saw a guy loading this past Sunday & it looked pretty easy with the rollers. How hard to convert to rollers? Just asking......

Well, I'm a fan of roller trailers, but you'll find it far easier and less expensive to replace what you have than to convert it to a roller trailer.

What you might do is contact the manufacturer of the trailer and see if they made a similar roller trailer. If so, they may be able to sell you the brackets, roller assemblies, and rollers.

Personally....I'd stick with the bunks.

Maybe depends on the size, shape and weight of your boat. If you've been launching and retrieving without much trouble then why go to the expense of adding rollers? You might consider going with wider bunk boards(I've seen some larger boats use 4"by6" or larger,treated for bunks), cover with marine carpet, spray it with silicone, if you need the extra slickness. Bunks also provide a better, broader base of support for the hull than the rollers. Good Luck!

:eek::eek:This debate again!!!

Do a search and you will get all the information you want.

That said, I vote bunks for the reasons I'v posted in many other "roller vs bunk" threads.

I vote bunks. I think they support the hull much better than rollers, with much more uniform pressure over a much larger area. I have two 2 x 6 x 10' center bunks under the stringers, and two 2 x 6 x 5' outer bunks out near the chines for my 20'er. I've never had much problem unloading or loading with bunks.

I find bunks easier to load and unload by myself, simply because I can stick the boat on the trailer, hop out and winch it on. With my roller trailers, I have to winch it the whole way and deal with cross wind and current to get it centered.

Sorry to bring up a beaten to death issue again,(did not do a search this time). I'll be sticking with the bunks, checked out prices on converting it over, no thanks....
