Re: Burn out
You will know when its time for a change. I reached that point a little over 3 years ago. Was the production manager for a custom fabrication shop with 18 guys working for me. Made awesome money but was putting in about 70 hours/week with very little free time. What I didn't get accomplished at work I took home and spent my evenings doing paperwork. I woke up one day and said that is enough. Quite the job and took the summer off. Wife was NOT happy but she understood.
I decided when it was time to go back to work that I didn't want any of the responsibilities/stress I had before. I was luck enough to find a job 3 minutes from home (used to commute 70 minutes one-way). I'm now a production technician on the shop floor taking home $9 less per hour but loving what I do. I get off work at noon every Friday, so it's like a long weekend every week. The best part ..................... I walk out the doors at the end of the day and forget about work, and just the elimination of the commuting time gives me an extra 40 hours free time every month.
Our family has had to make adjustments but we found that the extra money I was making went towards unnecessary luxury things for the most part. We still manage to pay our bills, eat well, take simpler vacations (boating, camping) and still put money aside for a rainy day. We have re-prioritized what is important and I hope to be around longer because of it.
