Maybe I'm being naive:confused:...it could have been lost in the mail or addressed incorrectly.

I'd like to think, for $10...like lowkee stated...not worth compromising one's morals, but there are some real winners out there for sure.

Thanks for the wisdom JB, that is an interesting outlook to take:)

Re: Burned, and it was my fault.

It does not matter where you go in life, someone will always try to con you. In your case, they did not ask for payment (from what I understand), but maybe they just procrastinate. I have met two members of iboats face to face, and both were very great people. I am a trusting person, maybe too trusting, and it has gotten me burned in the past.

The first time someone approached me at the gas station giving me the ole' "I need $5 for gas, my wife's brother's girlfriend's friend is pregnant / sick," I gave them $20 because I felt so bad. Not even two hours later, at a gas station about 15 miles away (I hit many gas stations for drinks, cigs, candy, etc. throughout the day for my job), the same person rolls up, with a completely different story. I felt like I was doing a good deed at first, and when he approached me again (and didn't remember me), I exploded on him. I simply tell everyone now that I only carry debit, so no cash on hand. One guy last year tried to sell me a 1980's boom box for $5, and even graciously offered to escort me to the ATM to get the cash out. The thing I have come to find in regards to this, is the people that really need help don't ask. I have given a few people rides, but will not anymore.

I have always had good luck on ebay, never been burned, as soon as I win the auction, I pay right then and there. On CraigsList, I have never been burned either, got my boat from there, although it would have been nice (mainly my fault) if he told me up front about some of the issues, which were just lack of maintenance. I like to go to bed at night with a clear conscience, and maybe because I know I could never knowingly rip someone off, is why I don't think other people are capable.

Re: Burned, and it was my fault.

Thanks Guys,

Let this thread die out now, I vented, I'm good.

The guy NEVER asked for anything, I sent the $10 to him, because he was giving it to me. I didn't want him to eat the freight on it.

The point that I wanted to make was pure and simple. We are all pretty anonymous, sitting behind a screen name. Not just here, but any forum.

My mistakes were:

1) The guy only has 11 or 12 or so posts. Has only been ghosting around since the beginning of August.

2) Tried to do the right thing. I should have waited 'til I recieved the manual to send him any mailing money. With the economy the way it is, maybe the guy was hard up for the $10.

I respect the Iboats forum rules. To tell the truth, I didn't really think that this would constitute a "sale". If that broke the rules, then I unintentionally did break them.

There is a core of Iboat users that I would bend over backwards to help out. This is not to say that I trusted someone, got burned, and will trust no one again. Not true.

I just got comfortable and complacent with the good community, and let one slip under the radar.

That's all, end of story.

Thanks for the spot to rant and rave!!

AMEN.:(
I never give money to anyone anymore. Their all a bunch of professional panhandlers. I was at a gas station in Memphis and in the time it took to fill up my truck 3 people came up and asked me for money:eek:
My rule now is: I will not give you cash (so you can go buy booze or drugs), but if you are hungry I will buy you food. 9 times out of 10 they just walk away. How sad.
This country has changed a lot in my lifetime, and not for the better.

one of the car forums I regularly frequent has a good guys/bad guys list. I'm proud to say I'm on the good list. but it does help members know who can be dealt with.

Re: Burned, and it was my fault.

There was a flood in a local town near here some 5 or 6 years ago. Most of the people had to be moved to an empty seniors home here in town. The red cross came in along with other charitable organizations and started handing out 500 dollar vouchers for Walmart so people could start buying things that they needed. It blew my mind to find out that 'former' residences of this town also moved into this home and claimed they were flooded out and received vouchers as well. By the time it was found out, they had cashed in the vouchersa and moved on. I don't know how some people sleep at night.

Well, that is the main reason we don't allow such private transactions to be arranged or sought in the forums and delete any solicitation for them.

you know i have swapped, given away, sold, been given to, and bought and sold things to other members.

Looks like the Moderators need to huddle on this issue and get their signals in sync.:D

JB said that private deals are allowed in the forums. TD said he has done them via PMs.

No conflict there.

I guess a mans word is worth crap in todays world.[/QUOTE said:
Ive been burned a couple times on a different forum... mainly because of MY TRUST in the human race- EXPECIALLY in a case like this when someone offers some money in advance as a show of thanks & trust. Both times Ive been burned, it wasnt for much money.... not like I went broke loosing it, but not like he would become rich screwing me out of something... I did the right thing... If they ( he/she ) in this case can live with themselves & be ok knowing they screwed someone out of 10 bucks.. well that is just totally sad....

Re: Burned, and it was my fault.

I've been involved with two "deal/trades" on iboats.

Trade #1. Offered the shirt off my back to Kiwi Phil. He in turn (but didn't have to) sent me a bunch of lures. Trade completed satisfactorily.

Trade #2.Offered a spool of line to whom ever came nearest to the actual cost of building my boat barn. I made a mistake in reading the "bids" from the posters and ended up sending out a spool of line to each after I announced an incorrect winner.

WHAT????? I never got my line! Where is it? Why didn't you sent it to me???? And I was pretty darn close to being correct on that contest!!!!(LOL!!!)

Re: Burned, and it was my fault.

To get to 1000 takes an awefull long time, and they are more than likely trustworthy.

It Does,..???
For what it is worth, I believe that he who trusts everyone makes a lot fewer mistakes than he who trusts noone, but he who trusts selectively makes fewer mistakes than either.

Ayuh,... Agreed,... Unfortunately,...I'm 1 of the 1st,.. Luckily, I've only been screwed a few times....
