Burning out Stators 89 225

Guys, a little while ago I burnt out my stator and inturn it shot the rectifier.The guy I bought the boat from said he had repaced the stator just six months before and I probably had done only forty hours since.Battery terminals tight all connectins seem good.I have a dual battery system with a switch.My question is does switching from batt A to batt B while engine is running have an adverse effect on the stator, as I think I read somewhere that voltage disruptions can melt that stator in pretty quick time.Any Ideas

Usually it is a regulator/rectifier malfunction that damages the stator. Most of the time the malfunction is due to intermittent or corroded connections. Use only hex nuts and lockwashers on the battery terminals, no wing nuts. A faulty or wrong type of battery switch can be the cause of your problems.<br /><br />If you switch batteries while the motor is running, it is best to do it at idle when less current is going thru the switch. Also be sure to use a "make-before-break" marine battery switch that is tested to be operational.
