Taking the boat to maryland in august to the bush river on the bay. We will be staying in a cabin at bar harbor. If anyone can give me some info on Fishing boating, hangouts etc. that would be great.
Thanks,

Denny,
If you dont hear anything here, give Jim at Conestoga Marine in Lancaster a call. He's been boating that area for 20+ yrs. He's a sales man there and wont mind you calling. I'm across the Bay in Rock Hall, I rarely get up that far.

Denny-
I'm not a Bush River "regular" but I've been up there a few times in the past. Not sure what kind of boat you'll be bringing but I'll assume it's trailerable.
Some observations:
- from the train bridge to the Bay, pretty much all the shoreline is APG and off limits. I think the rules also prohibit touching the bottom, so wading near shore is out- but skiing is OK. Dove's Cove is a nice quiet place to anchor but it can get buggy if there's no breeze. LOTS of wildlife can be seen around there- it's part of the Susquehanna National Wildlife Refuge.
Be aware that during the weekdays, APG can close the river to boat traffic (it's within their "restricted area"). The APG Patrol boats will be out when the river is closed. If in doubt- ask them. They're happy to answer questions.

- from the train bridge up, that part of the river reminds me of a lake- plenty of room to waterski with lots of homes along the perimeter. The bridge has 12' vertical clearance. As I recall, the bottom up there is really soft mud.

- I'm not sure about fishing, but my chart shows a good portion of the Bush to be prohibited. Check with Bar Harbor- they'll know for sure.

If you have a big enough boat and want to venture beyond the Bush, I'd recommend you buy a good nautical chart and take an easy run across the Bay to Worton and Stillpond. There's a wonderful restaurant on Worton Creek, and Stillpond is one of the best anchoring spots on the Bay. Of course, just to the south (also on the Eastern Shore) is the ever-popular Fairlee Creek. The entrance channel is "interesting" but not that difficult if you watch how others do it (hint: head RIGHT FOR THE BEACH- no kidding).

If that's not enough for you, then run north to the Sassafras! that'll keep you busy for a few days.... One thing to remember- keep watch for changing weather conditions- in a storm, the Bay is no place for small boats. Have fun.

Rockhall, I will give jim a call. I dont know him but have done buisness there.

Arks, I will be taking a 20' stingray svc 207 ss cuddie. the previous owner used it in the keys. So going in the bay should not be a issue giving we have good weather. I have a lorwrance chart plotter and in the process of getting some papercharts. Thanks for the info. I basicly run in the susquahanna (lake clarke) and run out to raystown a few times until the crowds move in. The bay will be all new to me so just trying to get all the info I can. Just got a unlimited membership to boatus just incase.
Thanks,
Denny
