Transom strap??? What's a transom strap?

I use cargo straps. One from each ski hook down to the trailer... I use them only when I'm heading out of the city. Helps the boat and trailer stay together... (Unlike the boat and trailer in the photo)....

Costly too!!!! Crane for lift!!!

Why use a crane? I would just pull the trailer out, put it in front of the boat and winch the boat up the trailer like normal...

Don't know where you live, but in the majority of the 50 states its simply required by law at all times.

Regardless, its just common sense. Most accidents statistically happen close to home. Mine was a block away!!

Well, if no other damage was done to the engine, he's just out some fiberglass repair and a new skeg on the lower unit. Wonder if the costs of this repair will outweigh the cost of a couple of ratchet straps? :D

Just yesterday I saw a brand new Mastercraft going down the highway with no tie downs at all (Nothing but the forward winch cable.) ..... Just plain stupid!

Very common on ski boats. Honestly I can't say I've ever seen an inboard ski boat that had transom straps on when trailering.

The ramp I use is 5 miles from my house, less than 40 mph, I do not use them for that tow. I will use them on long trips. My trailer fits my boat very well and any accident that would knock it off the trailer I imagine would be so catastrophic straps wouldn't do much anyway. Sometimes I don't even hook up the winch strap when pulling the boat out of the water, although I would never go down the road like that.

I bought a very nice 7 year old Stratus 386xf 18' fiberglass fishing boat once that had never had a safety chain on the bow. I added one.

If you are going to spend money, might as well get some Boatbuckles. Nice not having to toss the straps anywhere, they are always right where I need them.

I LOVE my boatbuckles. I installed them this spring and have used them 5 or 6 times now. So much faster, more convenient, and more secure than the straps that came with the boat.

Even going less than 40, and got in an accident, the boat WILL leave the trailer! I got T-boned at 25 mph. The other guy was goung 30 mph. He ran a stopsign, hit me,spun me in a complete circle,If I was pulling the boat it would have been catastrofic. I'm sure the boat would have jacknifed the rig and came off the trailer if not tied down. Mabe it would have reguardless but straps are cheap insurance. This happend right in town,3 blocks from home. 3 blocks or 3 miles.... It can happen anywhere.
