hello i have a 1979 55hp evinrude and im wondering how the buttaflys should be on starting, open or half closed. am trying to do the timing and just wondering how much air flow it sholud be getting for it to and run. can get it to fire most of the time now but not quite idle. im just learning this is my first boat. its firing better now then it was when i got it.

Sync&link this engine starting at the beginnig. Trying to adjust any one linkage componet will just get you lost. You need the proper manual (OMC) and follow the steps exactly.

Link is the proper adjustment of the throttle linkage so it open to full correctly and timing advances as it should.Sync is getting carb to open at the correct time in relation to the spark advance. If you don't have a manual you may find one at the library.
