i think a auto electrician can wire up a new controller i imagine it would be pretty simple forward gear uses no power neutral uses 12v to both gear solenoid wires and uses 12v to one of the two wires for reverse or vise versa on the NEUT/REV wires its not all that complicated

it is a no brainer to wire a toggle switch to make it shift. it is fail safe fwd. so at least you can come in if there is a elect. failuer. but i just gotta tell you, u got some great advice from your responses. the ign. system is stupid expensive for this engine. they were the smoothest shifting engines in their day. but we put man on the moon when these were new. now we have little rovers on mars. do yourself a favor and get a newer engine.

Seriously though, around here it would be 75-100 in value. Just too many outboards available around here. It helps being born blocks from where evinrude started and an hours ride from where Johnson was.

Someone who is too stupid to know that it is a 39 year old motor.

hmmm ..... thief ..... stupid ..... yeah, I guess that's a pretty good assumption.

A local boat salvage yard just quoted me $1200 for a 50hp electric shift.

Yeah but I'd sneak it into the cost! Those old clunkers weight a ton!

$ 275 is too much for something without the controls. This time of year in my area motors are going for three to six hundred, running with controls.
I would steer clear.

"will trade for knives" ?!?

Uh...maybe it's just me since I'm not a knife guy except for a good filet knife and a nice set of German-made kitchen knives, but who the hell trades outboards without controls, title (where needed), etc. for knives?

I wonder if I can go down to State College Ford and trade some grenades for a pick-up...
