Buying 89 Force 85HP any suggestions Appreciatted???

Hello All:<br /><br />I am currently looking to purchase a boat with a 1989 85 HP force outboard. Boat Water trials will run next week and I have owned Mercs and Merc Cruisers in the past. Are these outboards worth their weight or should I just use it for an anchor? Any assistance would be appreciated.<br />Thanks<br />Keep Boating

belair56: Welcome to iboats this is a great site. Yes think of the FORCE as a black anchor. You may get some good use out of it and you may not. Some will say that parts are drying up and that some techs won’t work on them. There is a marine wrench where I live that still will work on FORCE but he does not have any school behind him. When negotiating the deal I would only consider the offer for the boat and trailer engine $0 but seller must throw it in the deal. good luck.

the force is not all that bad. they do seem to be plagued with electrical/ignition component failures and though from the dealer they are expensive, they can be had for less if you search around. if you are taking it out on a trial run you should be able to get a feel for the condition of the motor. if it is on a bayliner be warned that bayliner has a nasty reputaion for rotting floors in boats of this era.<br /><br />i like my force, mine was $700 along with the boat and trailer. only changed impeller and she runs well.

Hello All:<br />I am looking at buying a 89 Spectrum 1900AB boat witth a Force 85 HP .<br />Has anyone had info or experience with these boats. Made by Blue Fin and all aluminum and it seems pretty well made. Sea trials start next week and we will go from there. Any help would be appreciated. <br />Thanks<br />RB
