Buying a boat with 05 F225s - what to look for?

Hey all,
I have negotiated a deal on a new to me boat with twin 2005 Yamaha 225s. I am very aware of the exhaust and thermostat corrosion issue. I understand the exhaust “fix” has been completed. The hydraulics on the trim have supposedly been replaced as well
I am having the boat surveyed and the engines looked at next week prior to purchase.

Is there anything else I need to look for? They have about 750 hours currently. How long before I have to power?

Hard to say.

I know of one that grenaded at 450 hours. I know of two others with over 3,000 hours.

Thanks guys. I’ve heard lots of opinions along the way. Some say, “if the exhaust was fixed you should be good for a few thousand hours”. Others have said, “if you’re past 7 years and no issues you’re probably good”. Still others have said, “once it starts you’re screwed. Don’t even bother”. I didn’t know if there was any consensus from this group.

Opinions are just that….opinions. Most based in hearsay and ignorance

Put a Ford, Chevy and Dodge truck owners in a room and ask which truck is best. Then formulate an opinion on these brands of your own from their responses.
All junk… who would own any of them….lol

The issue that allowed the corrosion to happen was identified and remedied long ago. If the upgrades have been made the issue is behind you.

Surveyed today and had the lowers dropped. One looks good on the exhaust leg, but the powerhead shows corrosion. The other is the exact opposite.

I've yet to see a salt run motor that is "corrosion" free.

Having said that, the picture on the bottom looks more like calcium spotting than corrosion.
