I'm considering buying a boat with a 454 Chevy engine. The Mercruiser sterndrive is broken with stripped gears. Is the mecruiser sterndrive the same form as a boat with the 4.3 Chevy engine? If not, what is different? Does anyone know what the horsepower rating is on a Mercruiser sterndrive?

What year is the boat and/or engine supposed to be?

Have any pictures of the engine?

Any serial numbers to share?

Do you know if the stern drive is a Alpha or bravo Drive?

while both the 454 and 4.3 are available with a bravo drive, it is more likely that the 4.3 uses an alpha drive which is not suitable for a 454. Also gear ratio would be different.

If you need a replacement mercruiser drive and dont want to pay OEM prices look at SEI aftermarket drives

In the
A few years back they would not warranty behind a 454 in my friends boat. 26 ft nearby Sundancer. He did it anyway and never had problems but then again not a speed boat.
80 s merc did put 454 with alpha drives and had issue with longevity. This was before the bravo drive came out .

Alphas are good for about 300 hp
