Re: Buying a new FF/depth thru-hull transducer
Ahh, I see said the blind man. - With no wire attached to the transducer, that means it gets pinged with a radio wave. Now that means I need a fairly stout transmitter in the head unit to cause a passive transducer to ping (no wires, no batteries remember). That stout signal takes a good amount of power. And I certainly don't want more "high power" radio waves in my boat. And all of this technology is to save a few feet of wire. Is this device akin to driving a tack with a post mall. OK so I'm just being a little skeptical. If there was a large demand for shoot-thru transducers, the manufactures would not only provide the installation location but would probably route the cable in the cable chases in the boat. You also don't want a protruding device in the keel area on a boat. Trailer boats have keel rollers to contend with that would snap off the transducer at first launching.
