@boaterinsd is that a fiberglass only construction or is it wood? I could pick it up in Atl.

1996 Chaparral what about this, its a little out of my price range but i might talk him down a bit

I like it. I would go check it out, if you were happy with it, drop 6k on the deck and say 6k cash depending on sea trial. Make him a take it or leave cash deal. Walk if he want to haggle.Worse that can happen, he says No.

1998 Four Winns Horizon Qx 18' v6 This is probably going to be the one, Is this a good engine/drive combo I have never dealt with the Volvo stuff. What kind of Compression should i be looking for on this engine? and also what color should the drive oil be? I know the mercruiser stuff is blue, what does volvo use? I believe Fourwinns only has wood in the Transom, so rot should not be an issue. Is there any thing else i should look for on the engine? The boat has like 340 Hrs. Is that High?

Carpet looks like hell, but it is snap in so it could be replaced. 340 hours in a 20 year old boat is no big deal, shows that they used it some but not a lot. What is all the scuz on the back of the upper unit, or do they actually paint them like that?

He said the carpet was kinda shot, as far as the lower unit i am not sure i will have to check that out when i get there. is that a fair price? I am not sure how to do a compression test on these volvo motors so any help would be appreciated!

If you stingray had a merc 4.3 it is the same block -- same compression check. Both mercs and volvos use the same GM block.

That engine is super clean. That says to me this person really detailed and kept the boat clean. Obviously wiped down the engine too. You could not get it that clean if you waiting just until you wanted to sell it to clean in.

On the outdrive what I think your seeing is exposed aluminum. Ask him about this. Did he use something like CLR to get of calcium deposits and just weaken the paint in that spot? That is the spot on my merc that gets the hottest and get the most calcium deposits on it. Maybe Volvo's are the same. My bet is the guy will be able to tell you about the paint missing there.

Also, when Stingray went all volvo for a couple of years I do remember a few people writing in about the volvo outdrive paint peeling. This could be the case, but I would expect it to peep more broadly across the outdrive, versus just where it has peeled.

Clearly, the guy is not hiding that area of the boat in the add. Give him a shot and ask what is up there.

Also, I do not find 340 hours to be high. My 2004 should have that on it by the end of this season -- if it ever stops raining on the weekends and global cooling reverses :)

Again, just for data, I would give him a shout and say, what is up with the outdrive. I bet you will get an answer that shows this guy knows his boat. Either way it will be good data before driving out.

I think he will likely get close to his price point because the boat has a 4.3 V6 in it. Most that size have the 4 banger in them. The extra hp and displacement is to his advantage relative to other used boats in that size range.

Great looking boat, Man that Volvo outdrive looks massive hanging out the back of that thing. Good luck.

Alright guys I went to look at the fourwinns, it is a nice boat just needs some reg. maint done. The bellows are starting to show cracks and some of the interior is starting to show signs of wear and plus a 21 year old owns it so I am sure it gets rode pretty hard.

I also forgot to add that the outdrive said Volvo cobra is that the ones that are hard to find parts for? I thought they were supposed to say Volvo Penta on them.
