Hello<br />I have a motor 1970 60hp Johnson that needs a new power head but has many new electric parts and a pretty good bottom end. I don’t think I will fix it because I just got another old motor. Someone suggested to me to section it of and sell the parts on e-bay or something. Does anyone have experience with buying or selling used parts over the internet and is it worth while? <br />thanks <br />Rob

well, the most important thing is to check the sellers feedback.....having said that I just saved a ton of money (with geico, sorry it just rolled off the tongue) on a propshaft and gears. I figure I saved close to $200.<br /><br />As far selling, go for it. There is always someone looking for specific parts. I betchya you could put your dirty socks on ebay and have a buyer.

Roboat,<br /> Selling online can be very rewarding and addicting. It is amazing that there are so many people out there looking for just what you are selling. I would advise you to first go to ebay.com and read over their tutorial on buying and selling. It is not difficult. You will pay a small listing fee and a final fee based on the selling price. Try to be as honest as you can when listing parts so as not to have disgruntled buyers to whom you sell. I would suggest that once you go to ebay.com, do a search for Johnson Outboards and familiarize yourself to what parts are selling for and how to list your items. Once you get started you may have a hard time stopping. Good luck<br />Bob

Roboat I've sold loads for bits on ebay mostly without any hassles.<br /><br />You got to be honest about the items condition and don't gouge for shipping: I get a few quotes for th eitems I ship before I list the item (usually on t'internet).<br /><br />Always get the money first and let the cheques clear in your account before letting go of the items.<br /><br />Have fun and you'll get addicted: you'll start looking through the workshop for more stuff to sell. Just don't sell anything you might need later: I've done that before

I have done buy & sell, mostly buy. Check on the shipping charges. USPS is the cheapest but slow. UPS (brown) is most expensive, maby 2 times more than USPS. I just got dinged $10 shipping on a $10 item, ouch, but I needed the part and it was still cheaper than new.<br />The real secret in selling is "PICTURES", people want to see pictures. Like above post says, be honest. I have bought junk too. Check feed back, you will find those w/bad feed back disappear. Maybe they come back under another seller name? Get familiar w/PayPal, some will ony deal w/them because they get thier money faster w/ guaranteed payment.

UPS can be as cheap as USPS if you're willing to accept 5 days and your shipment is not small. Small is better with USPS. <br /><br />My experience is that USPS beats up the package pretty good. With UPS, I could hardly tell it'd been shipped at all.<br /><br />If you're buying, check their feedback.

If you are willing to sell to Canada, be warned that using UPS to cross the border is expensive and many buyers will want USPS. UPS does some stupid things with duties & brkerage fees that USPS does not do.<br /><br />I won't buy if the seller insists on UPS.
