Hello all

I am looking at two boats to purchase and I wanted your input on the inboard outdrive combos I am newer to boating and just want to know the positives and negatives to both

1977 25' Hawaiian Daycruiser asking $4200
460 Ford with 750 Holley Carb and Volvo Penta 280 outdrive
Not much info on rebuilds etc just seems to start and run very well

1989 24' Wellcraft Eclipse asking $7900
Repowered recently to 1996 Volvo Penta 502 with 415hp and DPS outdrive

Is the 502 going to be alot worse on gas?
Or does the fuel injection and duo prop make them equal?
Which one is going to be the most reliable?
Costs to fix? I am assuming the dps is costlier?
I read there is not as much support for the Ford blocks?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Howdy,

Run quickly from the boat with the 460......DO NOT BUY any BOAT WITH ANY 460 installed. there'll be far more headaches than advantages.

You're much better off with the one that has the newer VP + Duoprop drive. Both the engine and drive are completely supported by Volvo and the avter market.

You may not be able to easily buy some parts for the 460.

Cheers,

I see you speak from experience! I noticed your signature.

The hassels aren't worth almost 1/2 the price?
It seems to run really well?
What kind of problems did you have with yours?

Thanks!

I'd go with the newer one, 1977 might be to old.
