So i bought a fishing boat and it need minor maintence items i have it running now and my wife wants a ski boat. I am considering purchasing a 2000 omega 22 1/2 foot ski boat the ad is below. My question is i know the motor isnt going to break free it will likely need a hone and bore if it stayed in water for any amount of time. What else can i expect to fix besides the internals of the motor?

I have a 2000 omega ski boat with a mercruiser 350 with thru hull exhaust, boat was partially sunk on bank from bilge quit working during a rain over night and motor went under water and not currently running, after being under the motor was pickled and filled full of diesel to prevent rust, the motor is partially locked up but will still turn so far. I was told that motor will break free and be ok if someone would work it back and forth but I have another boat and don't wanna mess with it so I'm willing to sell a 14 thousand boat for 6 grand, call for any questions! $6000 obo

if it was sunk long enough to freeze up the motor, you will have more problems than just that with the hull....once it was sunk it was no longer a 14K boat...without a running engine it is not worth 6k...I would continue to look, for 6 grand you can get a good used lake ready boat!

+1 for JDA's advice esp @ the more problems then 'just' a water soaked motor.

When did it sink? Did Tulsa get freezing temps since it went under? Motor was pickled? A project 22.5' boat is a big first project, if the fishing boat was only maintenance items.

Told by who? Ok, So why don't they DO it? Do you really think they'd take a 8k loss if it were REALLY that simple?

Even if the motor was in perfect running condition I would still be leery of this boat. An 11+ yr. old fiberglass boat could very well be getting ready for a deck, transom, and stringer redo if it wasn't meticulously cared for.... throw in being partially submerged for who knows how long, and how has it been treated since... makes me want to run away screaming just thinking about it.

I know right! I like to actually spend some of my free time, FISHING! Not working on the tow vehicle, that pulls the trailer that need an axle, that is going to haul the boat that needs motor work, which I will get to once the boat floats. Believe me I have been there!!

Re: buying boats to fix...

i understand the if it was really only that much they would do it gig.

I am just trying to get a fairly nice boat for cheap. It says OBO thats why i was wondering what everyone thought would need replaced to get an idea of where i need to get in at if i get in at all. The add says it was the back half that went under water i havent called the guy to get his story or know exactly when all this happened. i had no clue what "pickled" was doesnt appear anyone else here does either....

when i said i did maintence i dropped the l/u and replaced impeller, changed t-stats, adjusted shift rods. I was raised in a body shop and have acquired mechanical skills as i have went. If its a bad idea i understand, thought i might be able to pick it up cheap do some motor work and get it running again.
