i am looking at buying a 1999 dt140 to replace a 1990 johnson vro what is yalls thoughts on the oil injection and what should the mix be if i dont use the oil injection

I know of no failures in the Suzuki oil injection system. I would keep it.

If you do disconnect it, use a 50:1 ratio.

well im buying it for 1100 with controlls and a prop the guy said it came of a cat and it has been sitting for about a year and a half so im new to suziki 2 stokes he said i may have to do a cleanout of the high pressure fuel any idea where i can find barts for that but im not sire yet

Make shure it doesnt have an overheating problem.
to get to the poppet valve you will have to lift the powerhead off. stupid right??
pain in the ...
other than that the exhaust plates do rot out specialy on saltwater engines.

they said the cat owner upgraded to 4 strokes and they said that the sister to it was parted out for overheating and also WHAT IS A POPPET VALVE
it has about 250 hours on it its a nice lokking motor it has a good oil tank im going to put new plugs in it, it has no damage to the foot and i believe it has a low water pick up on it

I have that very same motor, 1997, just bought it and it's blown twin about a month ago. It is replacing a DT115 that has a scored cylinder. One suggestion, take off the oil tank and dump it out. Check for anything suspicious in the bottom. Sludge in the bottom of the tank on my 115 caused the oil flow alarm to go off but it always happened out on the water where I couldn't see the alarm light and thought I just had an over rev problem because of the prop I was using. Man am I an idiot.

You will have to bleed the oil pump when you put it back together but the shop manual covers that. You are going to buy a shop manual right? Browns Point Marina has about every new part you would ever need. I do too, give me a shout if you need anything as I am selling off the DT115 and DT140 parts.

That price is great as well. I think the blue book is about $1900 without controls or a prop.

If you can check the compression, better yet a leak down test. Also look at the oil in the lower unit making sure there is no water in there.

ight i will check the oil tank the oil is fine in the lower unit and it has good comp yes i am going to buy a shop manual but the oil tank prob will have to be bleed right?

if i run out of oil on the water do i have to bleed it again
the only suzuki that i am familar with is my parants had a skiff with a 115 suziki 4 stroke

You only have to bleed the oil pump if the oil tank is removed or you run out of oil. It holds over a gallon of oil so you should never run out if you top it off after every trip or two. Bleeding is easy but very messy.

No worries, you shoud be pleased with the engine.
