Buying First Boat!

So I've been looking at boats for the last few weeks and finally am ready to buy.

I've been looking at a 2003 Maxum 1900SR with just 58 hours. It has the AMFMCD Stereo, upgraded sport seats, rear sundeck, full gagues plus depth, plus wakeboard and rope. Has the 5L mercruiser.

Asking price is 11,000.

Is this a good boat for the $$? I've never owned, but I'm guessing I'll be pretty multi usage with it, mostly as a runabout, but some water stuff, ski, wake, tube.

I've been comparing to Reinell and a Tahoe deck boat, but this seems to take the cake..

Also, am I gonna be really bummed at the gas, vs. the 4.3 mercruiser?

That seems like a good price for a low-hour 19' with a V8. Sounds like a sweet boat. I believe Maxum's are middle of the road quality wise. Go for it.

when you get into the 19-20 ft boats the 4.3 is minimum. the 5.0 will handle it better. worth the $ in gas. low hours, seems decent price. it is 6 years old, the bellows and outdrive are going to need service, even though it has such low hours. get atleast a 1 hour test drive, and watch all guages.

Holy Cow. Not sure where you live but in MN that Maxum would go for much more than 11k and likely with a lesser engine and more hours. Take a test drive and snap it up. As for gas usage. My 18 foot boat weighs a bit more than the Maxum and with a V6 and, to me at least, it just sips gas. There is a counterintuitive logic with boat engines to some extent. Sometimes the larger engine gets better or equivalentish mileage because it works less to push the boat. I have seen comparison graphs of 4 cylinder sterndrives that have almost identical fuel consumption as a V6. This is all a bit loose but with the savings on the price you could afford a lot of gas.

Go for it

Did I miss a mention of which 5.0L engine it has? I'll assume Mercruiser for a Maxum but is it fuel injected or carbed? I may have missed this). It makes a big difference in the value of the boat.

I like Maxum bowriders - generally lots of useful space for the length. A 5.0L is a good engine for that boat as would be the 4.3L Injected, if the 5.0L is fuel injected then it's GREAT!

Gas milage....blah....close enough that purchase cost means a whole lot more! Few are getting asking price so offer accordingly.

Its the 5.0 carbed version. I'm not sure about getting a test drive in it, but it purred real smooth and everything looked almost brand new. I'm not sure on that one, but the guy seemed real cool, I guess his son was afraid of the boats speed?
