Buying motors online

I am considering buying a new or slightly used motor online and was wondering if anyone has any experience with www.smalloutboards.com? They're prices look pretty good compared to what I've seen elswhere.

Currently I'm running a 1980 25 horse 'rude but after getting stranded with it yesterday, it's about time to throw in the towel. Bought the boat 6 months ago to go fishing but spending all my time wrenching on the damn thing instead. Can't really afford a new motor but this things going to nickel and dime the cost of a new one anyhow.

Also, will salvage yards buy the old motors or is it pretty much a donation "we'll take it off your hands" kind of thing?

I have no experience w/ smalloutboards.com, but you can comparison shop w/ outboardsales.com and I know they will take great care of you. Good luck!

I don't know about the vendors, but, based on the posts I've seen on here the older Evenrudes would seem to have pretty good salvage value.

Thanks for answering guys. I've decided on a 20hp Tohatsu 4 stroke and will be buying one online tomorrow. Can't find any bad reviews on the Tohatsu so hopefully this motor will give me many years of worry free fishing. Looks like the price is about that same on several of the sites I looked at, somewhere around $2700. Free shipping and no sales tax will be the deal clincher.
