My buddys friend has an older v hull lund alum fishing boat for sale. He say its 14ft but it looks a little longer, i havent had a chance to measure it yet. Its an early 70's probally between 73 and 76 but its in really good condition. It was repainted about 5 years ago and it always been kept inside and still has all the original wood bench seats. It also comes with a 98 johnson electric start 15hp motor which still looks new and a shorelander trailer. Hes pretty firm on getting 2000 for it which i thought was a little high but he wont budge. Im looking for any advice i can get. Ive never bought a boat before and dont know much about them. I was also wondering how to find out the exact year and model of the boat if any one knows. Thanks

I would say 2g is a fair price. It would seem that most of that is going for the motor which is basically new, but if it has a usable trailer and from what you say about the boat, the rig minus the motor could go for 1200-1500.

I would keep a close eye on the condition of the trailer (i.e. rust, hubs, tires, lights/wires). If the tires are weather checked, or the lights are the old style (non submersible), and there's a considerable amount of rust - you may be investing a great deal of time into the trailer before you even get to the boat. Most important is checking the grease in the hubs. If its bad or looks like it hasn't been attended to in several years, you may want to put new hubs on it. (That's actually cheaper than rebuilding them in some cases.)

Most of my time restoring has been spent on the trailer. Aluminum boats are great because they're basically maintenance free, and last a lifetime if taken care of. The trailer is what can be a pain in the arse.

Good rig. You get what you pay for. You will not get hurt on it if it's in decent shape. Lund makes a very reputable boat.
