Hello all,

I have a 1982 Evinrude 150v6 and the motor runs great, just had a certified mechanic install a new water pump assembly and it ran great the first 10 times I had it out. Now when at WOT the buzzer alarm comes on. If I turn the engine off and let it cool for a few minutes, then just go 3/4 throttle I have no issues... what could this be? Thermostat or is my prop turning too many RMP's?

Thanks in advance!!!

You didn't mention what rpm's it's running at wide open.

The alarm is either defective or you're over heating. If I'd paid good money to a professional mechanic, I'd bring it back and ask him to fix it and would be hesitant to spend any more money unless he could convince me I'd done something wrong, not him.

Thanks d.boat. Unfortunately my Tach does not work... so I don't know what RMP's I am running, I do need to fix this too.

or could it be a fuel restriction? If so, what do I need to replace?

You can still have overheat issues with a new impeller. If the cooling water can't circulate through the block, it will overheat. Pull the thermostat housings apart and check the pressure relief valves (and the stats.) If you find any debris in the stat housing-you should pull the head covers to check for additional debris. If the pressure relief valves (and stats) check out ok, you may need to pull the heads off and check the condition and positions of the 6 rubber water diverters in the powerhead. That year engine did not have a vacuum switch.

I replaced both stats, springs and rubber washer thing. There was some corrosion/rust around the housing, but didn't seem too bad for the year model...
