Buzzer Question - 1982 90 HP Evinrude

I am a little confused about a buzzer sound that is coming from the throttle control/ ignition box. The sound is not very loud..it can be heard while the engine is at idle and close to the throttle controls. Moving the key around in the ignition changes the tone (sometimes) and/or it has gone off, or done nothing. The motor is a 90 HP Evinrude 1982. The thermostats were just replaced. The water pump has not be serviced.Water is coming out from the discharge line. I was told the overheat alarms were on the engine itself. Im not sure if this is an overheating alarm or somthing else. Thanks for any help you can provide.

sounds like a poor ground or a bad connection in the control box. or the horn is going bad. has the box been updated to the self test horn or is it the original horn ?

I haven't done any thing to the control box area. So Im not sure what the previous owner has done to it

That IS the overheat alarm you are hearing.<br /><br />Just because you have water flow doesn't mean it's not overheating.<br /><br />Better check it out.

Has the Temperature Sensor Switch wire comming from the engine been accidentally grounded?<br /><br />If the ground terminal of the buzzer is touching the control box chassis, that would also make a circuit and activate the over-temp alarm.<br /><br />Generally, these buzzers are supplied with 12VDC 'switched' (switched=when 'key' is set to 'on') from the key/ignition switch and the ground wire goes to the engine to a temp sensor which is in the 'normally open' state for normal engine temp; and when the engine overheates the switch closes and makes contact to the engine/ground to complete the circuit and activate the alarm.

Kesso is correct.<br /><br />The temp sensors are in the tops of each head and have a tan wire coming out of them.
