Ok so here is the latest on the 1985 115hp that has to see the lake by my hand after owning it 2 weeks!!

This may sound like a redundant questions but what makes the buzzer sound at the helm?

I have got a green light on the dash for Oil and when I turn the key I get the buzzer…. And its stays on… all the time…. Even when I fire up the motor.. I have checked the wiring to the 2 thermo switches and it seems to be good. Pulling the connectors and leaving an open connection or the reverse and jumping the connector and bypassing the thermo switches all together. The engine starts so I guess my kill switch works just great. Any ideas (other than ear muffs for the driver) ?

I should say I have both oil tanks empty and am running on 50:1 premix as I have not had a chance to test the oil pump and lines and did not want to risk it I just safety wired the floats up… If they are down I get the yellow or red light on the dash as expected so I assume they are working correctly?

Am i just doing something wrong or is there another trigger for the alarm other than heat and oil in the tanks and the kill switch?

Thanks again in advance for your help.

Re: BUZZZZZZZZZ… all the darn time!!

There is a small wiring harness leading from the VRO fuel pump. It connects to a half round plug and contains 3 or 4 wires. If you are not using the oiling system it should be disconnected.

[EDIT] I see that you have the same question in the Yamaha forum. If your motor is not Johnson or Evinrude, can't help you here. Thanks for the heads-up, DHP.

1985 what ?

Newer Johnson/Evinrude motors have lights on the dash to indicate engine problems. Not 1985

Some Mercury motors have two oil tanks. Not Johnson/Evinrude.Unless twin motors.
