Cable buddy yes or no

Has anyone ever used a product called Cable Buddy? This is a kit that comes with a nut with a lube fitting and provides a way to lube your steering cable. I had to replace the steering cable on my last boat and I'd like to avoid that on my current boat. This seems like a good idea on the surface. Anybody have any experience with this?

I was always too cheap to buy one. I just keep the cable end lubed.

This is an update for anyone considering this product. It did free up the cable as advertised and it lubes more than just the end. The main problem with it is that it leaks if the nut is not sealed which is not discussed in the instructions. I believe over time it will extend the life of my steering cable which was the purpose of installing it. Overall this is a worthwile investment in my opinion.

Looks like a good idea. Thanks for the info.

If you boat in salt it's a horrible idea.

Moisture and condensation builds up inside the boot and has nowhere to go. It just sits inside the boot and eats away at the metal.

A cable buddy is a much better solution in salt
