I have a 2006 40 hp Yamaha. I purchased (2) Teleflex 33c Red Jacket Control Cables. I attached the cables to the control box, but it just didn't seem to reach the attachment in the motor. (The Black Screw on Nut) Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you

Re: Cable Controls Help

Just so you guys understand this better, the cables are long enough, but the metal rods that are inserted into the motor don't seem to reach where it needs to be screwed into the black cap. Thank you

Re: Cable Controls Help

You likly need to adjust them where are clamped in place at the powerhead to get them right. Also adjust at each end. Be sure the throtle is closed and the shift lever and gearcase are both in neutral.

Re: Cable Controls Help - Not That Hard

Re: Cable Controls Help - Not That Hard

Hi, I had this problem when I replaced my cables. The cables have notches outside the cowling where the clamp is supposed to fit but when placed there the shift cable doesn't reach when adjusting the plastic nut all the way out. Solution: I simply moved the cables up in the calmp disregarding the notches. Maybe those notches aren't meant for the clamp.

My problem! I expected this to be easy but I cannot adjust the gear shift lever so it clicks into forward AND reverse. I have spent 8 hours trying to make the adjustments every way I can think of but . . . .

Is there a routine to follow for this adjustments? This is a 1985 9.9 Yam
