Cable or Friction Setting

Morning All,
Throttle control on my 5.7-300 slides smoothly in and out of gear and going from idle to WOT to pull up wake boards and tubes. (also when in neutral) However, once the wakeboarder is up making small speed adjustments at their request I find the throttle stiff. Is this a grease issue, friction setting issue or a cable issue?

How old is the boat? Is the stiffness increasing? My 4.3-280 was too loose so I increased the throttle friction on the control itself to help with small speed adjustments. You can try backing off on the friction setting and see where that takes you.
