I've been fixing up my 1958 Texas Maid and decided not rebuild my knocking 1958 35hp. I replaced the motor with a 1969 40hp Selectric Evinrude. I ran new cabling and went to hook up the motor bracket onto the 69, and now the pulleys rub on the handle. The bracket hooked onto the previous motor with no clearance issues I could recall. Can I just add some D rings or something to space the pulleys away from the motor handle? My pulleys have hooks and NOT eyelets.

Yes, you can use something to get the pulleys away from the motor. I did that on my old boat I had with the same problem. I use those things that look like links of chain, but they are threaded to open up. I use two on each side.
