cable stuck in tilt tube

I have a question that maybe a follower can answer. I fool with old forgotten outboards and boats. The one issue I keep having is stuck steering in trim tube. Tried hammering,- heat- adding penetrating oil. I know a trim tube replacement will work, but you also lose that steering cable. Any ideas on the tubes that are really REALLY stuck? Your opinions is most respected

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... That's one of those things that has to be fixed when assembled, 'n it has to be serviced durin' it's life,.....

If liberally Greased,...... Life is Great,.......

If it ain't, it don't take long for the dissimilar metals thing to go crazy, 'n yer at, where Yer at,.....

This is supposed to be a great penetrating fluid a 50/50 mix of ATF transmission fluid and acetone.
I haven't tried it myself,(but plan to in the near future) but if the only other option is to replace all parts involved. Why not give it a try.
Be careful acetone is flammable and will peel the paint of whatever it touches.

Tony, if you still have this problem... remove the steering arm and put a adjustable wrench or pipe wrench on the cable end and rock it front to back. If she moves at all, you should be able to get her out.

Spray with a penetrating oil and rock it. Continue to spray, wipe off the dirt and rock it. Eventually she will make some in-out progress and the fix will become more efficient.

You may need to file the cable end down, after hammering on it, as they mushroom.
