I occasionaly wire and rewire boats and race cars. <br />Since all are different, sometimes it's hard to remember how I wired it. It's also hard for other people to troubleshoot problems, especally on jet boats where I use grounding relays as much as possible to eliminate high load wiring to the front of the boat.<br /> <br />What I would like to buy is a cad program that I can make a one line drawing with wire size, color codes and electrical symbols. <br /><br />Don't want to redesign power grid for the state, just have drawing that can be used for troubleshooting, and be updated when changes are made. <br /><br />What's out there that will do what I need without increasing the national debt?<br /><br /> Thanks Dave

An inexpensive, easy to use program is Home Plan Pro. If I remember correctly, it only costs around 30 or 40 bucks. Comes loaded with some common symbols for for basic designs.<br /><br />I think the web site is www.homeplanpro.com.<br /><br />Good Luck.

Word and PowerPoint also have some of the symbols, and will do basic line drawings.<br /><br />For simple cad work, CadStd is free

I use Protel/Altium day in and day out at work for complex schematics. Works great... costs a small fortune. However, when I need to crank out a quick and dirty diagram (i.e. when helping a customer etc.), I use Windows paintbrush. For simple diagrams it's quite capable. I've even built a symbol library which I copy and paste from. It certainly has limitations but you can't beat it for simple and free.

How about Paint Shop Pro? Not only would you have the capability of drawings that you want to do, you would also have a great photo-editing tool as well. About $80 at Staples.<br /><br />I am an AutoCAD user, have been since 1990. I wouldn't recommend it for what you are doing, as it's an expensive program. Since I am a drafter/designer by trade, I have to use it! But I do use PSP as well on occassion. Its a great program and very affordable.

I dont think lite it marketed. But if powerpoint has something thats what I would use. Acad will be way more than what you need. Keep it simple.

I thought I had replied to this. Must not have hit "post" at the bottom.<br /><br />Anyway, LT is a $900 program. Much cheaper than the full version, but still pricey. I'll stick to my PSP recommendation...multi-use program.<br /><br />PP is great, if you need a presentation software...its fun to make slide shows!
