I bought a 1991 CaliforniaCool 19' closed bow boat and I don't know anything about the maker. Does anyone have extra info on them?

I attached some images to appease the visual people.

Re: California Cool Boats - Know anything?

It's a 4.3L V6 under the hood. It gets great gas with 800-1000lbs of human weight in the boat. Not sure on the speed but the whale tail and flat bottom allow me to plane off and even trim up in about 5-10 seconds. Haven't tried a skier yet but I am sure it will handle great.

A bit more I have read online (I am still digging for information) is that these were owned by Dan Medina before he moved on to custom application boats and I have also heard that Warlock made boats with the CaliforniaCool name.

The owner that I bought the boat from told me that it was originally owned by Jeremy Mcgrath. If anyone knows him, ask him to confirm it for me. Maybe he remembers how he bought it. Lol

hey nice boat!

i have this sitting in my driveway right now..

my grandfather bought it in 1992 and sold to me in 2003, i know its a pretty close clone to a boat owned by someone named "mike" that was affiliated with the shop. i have the original purchase order.

i found your thread looking for information myself on the builders.

Re: California Cool Boats - Know anything?

a little bit more about my boat... it was built with the gas tanks in the side as opposed to the bow, this makes it murder to plane out quickly with a full load. the cup holders in the middle seats were left out to give a bit more leg room and the running lights and side cleats were left off as well. its a great boat, always get lots of looks on the lake.

Re: California Cool Boats - Know anything?

My last boat was a California Cool. The only thing I didn't like about it was the stupid name . . . Yuck!! I actually met the guys that built her. Mike does ring a bell, and there was another guy called Sang that was I believe the "owner". They also specialized in making bow rails and other stainless components for other boat manufacturers. They had a wall full of them and I believe supplied to people like Eliminator, Ultra, Carrera etc.

Here's mine from when I was selling her in '04. She was a '93 hull that I finished rigging in '95. She was held as collateral by a local dealer after loaning Sang some money that he obviously didn't pay back. I bought the hull from that dealer. It included the interior and gauges and the wheel. I stuffed the engine and drive. It was a TBI 5.7 250 hp and Alpha 1.

That is the twin of what I have. Is it a 91 or 92? I have an aftermarket stereo system with amps and woofers under the front and it doesnt have alot of room to begin with. I dont have the california cool logo on the side either. I realize this is a while after your post but do you still have the boat? What motor option are you using?

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you sell it for? I would like to move back into an open bow soon. Preferrably with a 4.3 , 5.0, or 5.7. I dont want to get into the gas guzzlers and I can hang with most the other bigger motor boats just fine (Within reason). The closed bow is pretty but I like to be able to walk to the front or even be able to fish out it sometime.

Re: California Cool Boats - Know anything?

I also have heard and let me know if I am wrong that Dan Medina from Laveycraft was a part owner in California Cool boats?

These are two quotes I found from other websites:

"I know all about Cal Cool boats. They were owned by Dan Medina who has now moved on to big time speciality boats. If you need some info, let me know what and I will help ya or contact folks who can help.
Mr. Medina worked as a Sales Representative and Production Manager with Rosemary’s Draperies from 1973-1985. Daniel Medina owned Lavey Craft Boat Co. from 1985-1992. Mr. Medina was also a partner in California Cool Custom Boats from 1992- June 1997. He worked as the designer and manufacturer of all of their boats. Mr. Medina served as Director of Sales and Marketing and Production Manager for Sonic Jet Performance, Inc. from October 1999 to October 2001 and successfully increased the company revenue by 50%. He has extensive experience in every phase of sales, marketing and manufacturing."

"California Cool Enterprises is a cpmbination of two separate companies, Fiberglass Solutions and Crusader Custom Boats. Our combined expertise totals over 90 years of hard work and dedication to our field. We specialize in fiberglass tooling and manufacturing, used for standards runs and custom parts. Whatever the task maybe, if it's made from fiberglass or foam, we can make it! Our designs range from architectural paneling, to boats, to cars, to even artificial rocks. Take a look at one of our sections to view our completed work"

Let me know if I had a load of crap. I dont know who Mike is, I have heard the name Sang Kim before though.

Re: California Cool Boats - Know anything?

Maybe it wasn't Mike. Could've been Dan. He was Hispanic, nice guy. Helped me a lot. Sang wasn't helpful. I don't remember what I sold her for. Checking for notes now. I want to say $8500, but I could've got more. She sold in just a day or two, but that was 2004.

Re: California Cool Boats - Know anything?

I am thinking about listing it for sale here in Arizona. I would like to get another open bow, ideally i would love to stay with this style in 20-23 foot. I think these boats look amazing.

Bump, I haven’t run mine in a good 4-5 years, been garaged as we’ve been growing as a family, but really hope to get it on the water again this year
