I was going to bleed my breaks the other day when I realized that my left, rear caliper had no break line attached!!!

I have a 2007 venture double axle trailer and I didn't notice this problem before. I may have done a few trips without the break line attached. I took the caliper off and there was salt build up on the threaded connection. I used a toothpick to loosen the salt and a little water came out. I used cleaner to try and get it as clean as possible, then I added brake fluid to the caliper to sit, full, until I could get to it.

The question is: have any of you experienced this? Is there a chance of reconnecting the caliper, with a new break line kit and flushing it? I have the kit and I am planning on installing it tomorrow.

Re: Caliper question

I would imagine the inside of the caliper cylinder is probably rusted and pitted if there was water in it. Fittings would probably be shot too. I'd probably just replace it with a new caliper to be safe & save myself the hassle of trying to revive it.

Re: Caliper question

By the time you buy a new piston, caliper hone, and a caliper seal kit, you will have spent more than if you would have bought a new caliper. Besides the bleeder is probably seized and you will snap it off anyway. Been there........

Re: Caliper question

Thanks guys. The new brake kit seems to work fine. I don't think the mentioned caliper is working like you mentioned. I attached it temporarily until I replace all the calipers very soon. I am getting lots of brake dust on all wheels although I don't feel or hear any friction during the test drives. I can't stand it when things aren't quite right.

Re: Caliper question

Is your master cylinder, one for disc brakes or drum brakes?
