Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I don't know how many times I've been checked for fishing license and safety check out there but it started seeming like everytime I went. The boat number and name is recorded in a computer I believe on their boat. Once I did feel a little harassed when I was loading my boat on to the trailer I get on my knees on the open bow cushion and reach over and hook the winch than direct my wife to pull forward. Its not that big of boat or reach to do it. Just as I was hooking up I heard a almost screaming voice saying sit down. I looked over to the dock and see two young uniformed feds. I came so close to telling them to f off but I've learned to be more patient these days. I was hooked so I sat and directed my wife to pull up.

dont worry about these feds.you know you do,They also lay fish traps across the lake mead to trap fish and kill them, for there only reason, study,i ran these traps yrs ago and let the fish go,huge fish that were there forever and i was the only one there to save them when they were at there bones and gills. As they swam off i felt so sad knoeing that the net went on forever.

Just for reference . . . it looks like the lowest in the last few decades was on 11/27/2010 at 1081.89, so that's our low water point that we are climbing from. 32 ft. so far!!!

Edit: Oops. Math error on a math post . . .

Edit is my friend..lol :D

Stayed by Decision Island over Labor Day..Lake was awesome, and it was probably our last time out this year but looking forward to off-road season. Cruised up to Sandy point with a group of boats to meet my neighbor at home who is retired and has a place at Meadview. The lake was FLAT

Got stuck in that Oak Hills fire traffic on the way up the pass Friday which made for an extra hour in the trip out there

I was at Havasu, NO wind on Sat and Sun. Sounds the same. Luckily I had the option of going out the 10 . . .

One more LV guy here. Used to run my 06 Bayliner 175 out there back in 06-07. Sold that boat years ago and haven't been out there since then. But will be picking up another boat in the next few weeks and will be back out there with the family again. Really miss it, and am really curious as to what the lake looks like now.

just wanted to see how many iboaters cruise there boats on lake mead here in nevada and arizona.Tell me and everyone else about yourself and your boating activities.Me, im building my boat right now, should be ready by spring.I always launch at calville bay and fish, camp and explore this area well now for over 20yrs.Man i love my dog too.
I'll keep an eye open for cruises to Mead. It's about 300 miles from here so a long weekend is a minimum for us.
For years, back when the San Fernando Valley Power Squadron had an active trailer boating group, we would go on Thanksgiving weekend, launch on Lake Mead, at Temple Bar, camp on the beach with our boats & have a Thanksgiving Feast. On Friday we would cruise up stream to the Lower Granite Gorge of the Grand Canyon. It has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world with red sandstone mile high canyon walls. One of Natures Wonders.
Entering the Canyon is a bit tricky, there is a natural River Delta complete with sand bars. So it?s best to go with several boats, at least 2, when one runs aground the other can pull him off.
We would go about 30 miles into the Canyon, to a place called "Separation Canyon". There is a bronze plaque on the Wall commemorating the spot where some of the members of the Powell expedition left the main group & were killed by Indians.
It's worth the trip. People travel from all over the world to see the Grand Canyon. Not many get to see it looking up from their own boat.

I have to say that I have been missing boating on Lake Mead for some time. Sadly I have been without a boat since 07. But there should be a new boat sitting in the drive way in a couple weeks and we'll be back in full force. My dad loves going out there and fishing for stripers and catfish.

Hopefully we can all do a little get together and go play on the lake as a group. Should be fun.

ha..would have been a pain towing, but I wasn't. They had the road completely closed anyway until the fire wasn't a threat. The extra hour on the road in 5 - 10mph traffic sucked, but it also just made it all the sweeter when we got there!

Hey John..made that trip many times. Looking forward to more lake elevation gains so we can get back up there once again. You really have to do it to realize how awesome the experience is. When you're up in the canyon, it's not just a boat ride anymore..it's a an awesome experience that actually could be taken for granted because it's so easy to do if you have the right equipment. One minute you're on the lake and 30 minutes later you're at the bottom of one of the seven natural wonders of the world - the Grand Canyon.

My in-laws belonged to the Power Squadron in the 70's and used to go to Mead. I wonder if it was the same chapter? I don't believe they ever went up river, or spent T-giving there though.

Click to see the story of how what they're calling "Superimposition Rapid" was formed, along with some cool timeline photos."Superimposition Rapid"
This is from Post #286 and there may be some clues if you peruse the whole thing after clicking above. I recall references to Grand Wash when I read over it. Might be able to tell by a decent Topo map have if you want it. PM me your email addy, big file.

Sure was nice on the lake last sunday. It's finally cool enough for me now for day time. My season starts now. Nice to see the lake come up, now I'm trying to figure out where the islands were and how far they are down.
